“The Basilica Organ”
Organ concert by Daniel Pandolfo
Daniel Pandolfo, born in France in 1942 from Italian father and German mother, studied at the National Conservatory of Metz (Lorraine) where he got his first prize, the highest degree and the golden medal. Again in this city, when he was only twelve years old, he was appointed owner of the big organ of the Jesuit Chapel. In the following years, with Pierre Cochereau, he specialized organ interpretation and improvisation and attended a course of orchestra direction with the master Jacques Pernoo. Parallel to his musical studies he followed also the humanities, graduating in 1962, at the University of Strasbourg, in Italian language and literature. In his concert career he has been performing on the stages of eminent European theatres and festivals, playing as solo artist – with orchestras like the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Belgian Sinfonietta Orchestra, the Rumanian State Orchestra of Tirgu Muresh – playing duo with well-known solo artists like Mauro Maur, Pascal Clarhaut (first trumpet at the Paris Opera), Amiram Ganz, Sandrine François and Jean Deplace (respectively first solo violin, first solo flute and first solo cello of the Strasbourg Philharmonic) and many lyryc singers. Daniel Pandolfo is the holder of the Merklin big symphonic organ, restored in 2000, of the cathedral of St. Pierre et Paul in Obernai, and artistic director of the organ season “Les mardis de l’orgue Merklin”. Many also his album recordings, regarding in particularly the symphonic and romantic organ and sacred rhapsody.
Daniel Pandolfo’s concert is included in the festival “L’organo della basilica (The Basilica Organ)”, an eminent yearly festival dedicated to monumental “Vegezzi – Bossi” of Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
