John Coltrane: A love supreme
Quartet by Franco Ambrosetti
with Orchestra d’Archi Enea Salmeggia
Direction and arrangements by Gabriele Comeglio
Pietro Ghislandi, acting voice

During the year 1957 I experienced, for God’s will, a spiritual awakening that would lead me to a richer, fuller and more productive life. At that time, for gratitude, I humbly asked to be granted the means and the privilege to make other people happy through music. I feel that it was granted to me for His will. All praise to God (John William Coltrane)

“A Love Supreme” is unanimously considered John Coltrane’s artistic and human apex. Recorded in December 1964, the work of the American sax player is not only an absolute musical masterpiece but represents also a message of human and spiritual change of the artist: a concerned musical prayer.
An extraordinary work born, as the author himself said, by a deep interior mysticism. The work is divided in four movements – “Acknowledgement”, “Resolution”, “Pursuance” and “Psalm” – will live again in another dimension, thanks to the interpretations of the quartet of Franco Ambrosetti and of Orchestra d’archi Enea Salmeggia with the direction and arrangements by Gabriele Comeglio.
Opening the concert Pietro Ghislandi, an actor from Bergamo well-known for his presence in many successful movies, will read a concerned prayer written by Coltrane himself.

Concert realized thanks to the contribution of Fondazione Cariplo within of the festival Il ritmo delle Città.
In collaboration with Fondazione Mia – Congregazione della Misericordia Maggiore di Bergamo.
