Ellington’s Suites
Direction by Gabriele Comeglio
Orchestra of Notti di Luce
solo artists Franco Ambrosetti, Rob Sudduth, Emilio Soana

Of the qualifying characteristics of Notti di Luce there has been, since its first edition in 1999, the creation of a true orchestra that has been used with flexibility and artistic quality in different musical contexts: from the jazz of Ellington, Count Basie and Bob Mintzer, to the pop music of Lucio Dalla, Ron, Sergio Sgrilli, Massimo Lopez, Fabio Concato and Roby Facchinetti. This has been possibile thanks to two basic elements: the cratftmanship of the well-known director and arranger Gabriele Comeglio and the professionality of excellent musicians related to Centro Didattico produzione Musica of Bergamo. Also for the tenth anniversary edition we chose to propose Duke Ellington’s never-ending music which constitutes one of Notti di Luce “fil rouge” since 1999, the year Duke’s famous suite “Such Sweet Thunder”, dedicated to Shakespeare’s characters, was presented. In Notti di Luce 2007, as well, Comeglio proposed again the musics taken from the famous Sacred Concerts which constitutes Ellington’s spiritual and musical will, of which Fondazione Mia Congregazione della Misericordia Maggiore di Bergamo, one of the main partners of the festival, will soon release a live CD. This year an extract of some of Ellington’s most important suites will be proposed among which: “The New Orleans Suite”, “The Queens Suite”, “The Liberian Suite” and Billy Strayhorn’s famous rearrangement of Gershwin’s “Blue Rhapsody”.

In collaboration with Fondazione Mia – Congregazione della Misericordia Maggiore di Bergamo
