The Selfish Giant
Taken by a novel by Oscar Wilde
Oreste Castagna, actor
Stefano Bertoli, percussions
Also this year Notti di Luce consider children and families bringing to the stage the show The Selfish Giant, as for The Happy Prince put on in the last edition of Notti di Luce, one of the most beautiful Oscar Wilde’s fairytales.
The Giant’s abandoned garden is wonderful and all children go and play there after school. But one day the Giant comes back from a long travel, builds up a high wall round about his mansion and chases away the children. As under a spell spring quits that place and snow and freezing cold bite on and on trees and soil. Only an act of good will can give back that garden full of life, a small act that can warm the Giant’s heart.
Created as show especially for children, it suite also to an audience of grown-ups. As for The Happy Prince, the characters are magically born out of Oreste Castagna’s hands, who cuts them out of paper. The interaction of music, words and manuality is the particularity of the show.
