Kataklò Athletic Dance Theatre "Up, Vertical Energies"

Kataklò Athletic Dance Theatre, the Italian group of athletic dancers that has gained renown with both the Italian and international public in their previous shows Indiscipline and Kataklopis, will present their new show Up, Vertical Energies, a piece dedicated to the mountain as the place for bodily expression and as a representation of spiritual elevation.
The show includes several sequences depicting, in the first part, man's conquest of the mountain. Aided by a vast assortment of climbing gear - such as lines, harnesses, snow-shoes, skis - the dancers fill the scene with exciting live force and athletic performance. Once the summit has been reached, man lets himself be conquered by nature's enchantment. Then it's flowers, animals, ice that dialogue with man, though a dance that becomes less and less forceful, yet equally intense.
Up, Vertical Energies is Kataklò 's tribute to the world of nature, an occasion to ponder on the relationship between man and the mountain.
As for the choice of musical passages, the show begins with the very lively selection of Nine Inch Nails, and continues through varying sounds (Mari Boine, Utah Saints, Bregovic, Janet Jackson), eventually engaging in an engulfing Gregorian chant, accompanied by the outstanding sax of Jan Garbarek..
This theatre group was formed in 1995 under the direction of Giulia Staccioli, who was both choreographer and director, and was initially composed of seven Italian Olympic champions. Today, Kataklò includes 18 high-ranking athletic dancers (of which 11 perform in "Up"); being finally free from the bonds of competition, they can explore with enthusiasm and passion the endless possibilities for expression that dancing provides.
The group's producer and light designer is Andrea Zorzi, the unforgotten "pillar" of world volleyball.
